Seating plan innovation: How TodayTix upgraded their ticketing system
TodayTix, a prominent platform in the entertainment industry, was facing challenges due to its reliance on a third-party tool for managing theater seat reservations. This dependency incurred substantial commission costs and restricted their ability to fully customize the user experience. Seeking a cost-effective and flexible solution, TodayTix turned to Moravio for a custom-built tool that could streamline their operations and enhance the ticket purchasing experience for their users.
TodayTix is a New York-based company founded in 2013. It is a major platform for discovering cultural events and buying theater tickets, serving audiences worldwide with an easy, digital-first experience.

TodayTix was dependent on a third-party tool that provided essential features like seat maps and design capabilities for theater seating. This tool, while functional, came with significant commission fees for every reservation made through the platform. Additionally, the lack of customization options limited TodayTix’s ability to tailor the user experience to their specific requirements. This situation created a need for a more cost-efficient and adaptable solution that would give TodayTix complete control over their ticketing process.
To address these challenges, Moravio developed a bespoke, Figma-like seating management tool using React and Redux for state management. This custom tool allows theater administrators to design and configure seating layouts with precision, using vector-based tools to plant and number seats dynamically. The intuitive interface enhances the user experience by enabling easy visualization and selection of seats. This solution not only eliminated the need for the third-party tool but also provided TodayTix with a robust and scalable system tailored to their unique needs.
The implementation of the custom seating management tool has led to significant cost savings for TodayTix, amounting to $100,000 annually. By eliminating reliance on third-party services, TodayTix has not only reduced expenses but also gained greater flexibility and control over the ticketing process. The improved user interface has enhanced customer satisfaction, providing a more interactive and user-friendly seat selection experience. This project highlights Moravio's capability to deliver high-impact, customized software solutions that drive substantial value and operational efficiency for its clients.
