Dolní Vítkovice covers about 10 ha in the Vítkovice district and is a rare example of a full industrial production chain—from coal mining to coke ovens and blast furnaces—all preserved in one place. Operations ran from the 1830s until 1998. In 2002, the site became a national cultural heritage landmark and later part of Europe’s industrial heritage. After decades of revitalization, the area now hosts interactive science centers (like U6), a concert hall in a renovated gas holder (Gong), a climbing wall, and cafes. The highlight is the guided tour of Blast Furnace No. 1, including an adrenaline walk across Bolt Tower—70 m above ground with stunning views. Dolní Vítkovice also hosts major festivals like Colours of Ostrava, educational programs, exhibitions and conferences. It blends industrial history with technology, culture and recreation.
